Hi all

After playing at wotan, seeing what the pbi have achieved, and with dday coming up myself and Tom got talking about an idea webby broached a while ago. A Yank training group.

After a further chat last night and seeing how the german, and now pbi, players have all banded together we thought it was a good idea to perhaps do an american one for those of us who prefer this side of the triangle.

We'd be looking to take it not quite as far as the PBI however still go along the same lines. Our initial thoughts are to have a airborne and inf set of impressions hopefully badged up in the same units. To train together etc and have a bit of a social thing as well.

Before we get going on it though was wondering if people would be interested in it?

If so let us know and we'll get organised :)

Just a idea at the moment but could help to form a more cohesive american unit.

Well, guess this means a new M1 and jacket for me, as the infantry unit is guaranteed to be 1ID. Or I could spend my money on PBI...

Could have just copied the text from my post mate :P

Not many people replied to any of my posts on the USAG thread!

Maybe we could ask for out own section of the forum like the PBI group

Kavster I shouldnt think it would have to be the Big red 1, just like I am sure the airborne wouldnt be restricted to 82nd or 101st.

Get some more interest and it's a distinct possibility . :D

Tsch , maybe a "Yanks only" game would encourage some fevered kit purchases.

Well I was lead to believe that it was only the Yanks in the Hurtgen forest yet we have brit commandos and paras on board! Not that their presence there would ever be deemed questionable, might throw my Marine gear on for it what the hey ;)

 webby is more shandy than bitter .....

Moving on, I guess like the work thats gone on with the PBI, you'll need to up the anti a smidge. Posting on here for interest is one thing but you need to get out and irrate all those out their already with Yank kit ;) (tactic seems to have worked for the Brits  )

You don't have to be even uniform specific if your just putting feelers out, I guess its more important to work as a team than what everyones wearing and if that progresses the rest will as they say come with time ;)

Hopefully as said you'll get the interest, you only need a small team of you to start with after all, normally 6 men (women) at events per little squad, so if you could get enough for one squad you'd be halfway there, as others would in due course tag along

As PBI organisers, we were very impressed with the amount of people out there who have replied positively to PBI already. I thought that we'd struggle to get a section together, it looks like that's going to be no problem at all.

Once you start something rolling, you'll be surprised at the amount of people ready to get involved and support it, and there are at least as many US 'softers out there are brit ones.

Good luck! :D

Aye helga was just looking to see if we could get 6-10 people interested. once we have that we can get info posts setup etc and maybe if we ask nicely our own little board area :)

theres 5 of us already so if a few more chip in with interest we'll get things swinging

Yea, PBI's idea about starting off with a rifle section is a good 1, i remember gadge mentioning about starting at thinking about an understrength south staffs section, maybe 6 people... and go on from there regarding numbers.

If you want to walk to all the events....

We were going to leave the decision on which unit to badge up as until we'd got a few people together, then take a vote. Afterall it'd be everyone's group so it's not fair for us to insist people re-badge as whichever unit from the off.

I wouldnt mind changing my patch, I would imagine infantry gear doesnt change between big red 1 and 29th for example. Only the patch and helmet decal (optional)

Pretty much. Initially it's all about getting people in a uniformish set of kit, then as a group we can decide on the units. I'm also fully prepared to badge up my Airborne loadout as 101st or 82nd depending on the feedback, I'll just leave my infantry stuff blank as I get it until we're decided.

Most people have 1ID, so it'll go that way. I don't really mind, but it will mean the expense and hassle of buying another M1 and prepping/painting it again. 1ID is fine with me, but remember people will have different uniform patterns, too. some will have mustards and some HBTs - how does that work with unit uniformity?

im not badged as 1ID and neithers tom kav so relax :) the favs seem to be big red 1. rangers. and 29th. so we can all have a discussion about that down the line

in terms of uniformity we arent going to really be strict on it as long as people are in ww2 US kit. hbts, m41's or m43's are all fine as we'll look generally uniform anyway badged as the same unit and with same helmets etc. we'll say we'd love for you to get m41's or a m42 jump suit but we wont say you have to or stop you getting other gear. eg I have hbt trousers to go with my m41. their much comfier etc than the mustards. in reality it would have happened in the field anyway
